European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has accused Russia of deliberately attempting to divide the European Union, linking Moscow to the mysterious drones that have violated the bloc’s airspace in recent weeks.

“This is not a random provocation. It is a campaign to intimidate our citizens, to test our resolve, to divide our union, and to weaken support for Ukraine. It is hybrid warfare, and we must take it very seriously,” Von der Leyen declared.

The head of the EU executive called for innovative approaches to confront the ongoing threats that, according to her, come from Moscow, emphasizing that traditional defense is no longer sufficient.

“This is about drone software, spare parts for pipelines, rapid cyber-response teams, and public information campaigns to raise awareness,” she added.

Von der Leyen delivered her remarks during a European Parliament debate on the new motion of no confidence against her, which is expected to be voted on Thursday.

The motion has been initiated by MEPs from both the far left and far right, who accuse her of lack of transparency, failed migration policies, and weakening the EU’s global competitiveness as a result of her climate policies.
