European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen welcomed Hamas’ willingness to release hostages in Gaza, calling it an “encouraging” sign.

“This moment must be seized. An immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the release of all hostages are being achieved,” she wrote on X (formerly Twitter). Von der Leyen added that Europe will support “all efforts aimed at ending civilian suffering and promoting a sustainable peace solution, the two-state solution.”

Hamas announced that it is ready to release all hostages, alive or deceased, according to the detailed 20-point plan proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump, and to enter immediate negotiations on the specifics of the proposal.

The group also expressed willingness for control over the Gaza Strip to be transferred to a Palestinian body, with Arab and Islamic support.

In its statement, Hamas emphasized that some elements of Trump’s peace plan are acceptable, while others will require further negotiation.
