European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has praised diplomatic efforts ahead of the scheduled meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and U.S. President Donald Trump in Florida, emphasizing the need for a just and lasting peace that preserves Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

“We welcome all efforts aimed at our shared goal – a just and lasting peace that safeguards Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and strengthens the country’s security and defense capabilities as an integral part of European security,” von der Leyen wrote on platform X.

She stated that the European Commission will continue to exert pressure on the Kremlin in 2026, support Ukraine, and closely monitor its progress on the path toward EU membership.

President Zelensky highlighted that he, together with the Ukrainian delegation, had discussed diplomatic progress with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Karney and various European leaders.

“We reviewed our key priorities. Ukraine appreciates all support. Tomorrow, after the meeting with President Trump, we will continue discussions. Strong stances on both the frontlines and in diplomacy are needed so that Russian President Vladimir Putin cannot manipulate or evade a fair and just end to the war. The world has enough strength to guarantee security and peace,” Zelensky wrote on X.

The discussions included leaders from France, Finland, Germany, Italy, Denmark, Poland, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, and the EU, as well as NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte and the UK’s National Security Advisor Jonathan Powell.

The high-level talks in Florida aim to advance a peace plan for Ukraine and ensure continued international support for the country amid ongoing challenges on both military and diplomatic fronts.
