Following a more than two-hour phone conversation between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has reacted.
Von der Leyen thanked President Trump for his conversation with President Putin.
“I want to thank President Trump for his tireless efforts to bring about a ceasefire in Ukraine. It is important that the United States remains engaged.
We had an excellent call with President Donald Trump, together with President Emmanuel Macron, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, President Alexander Stubb, Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and President Volodymyr Zelensky to receive a briefing on his conversation with President Putin,” said von der Leyen.
She emphasized that EU states will continue supporting Ukraine in its pursuit of lasting peace.
“We will continue to support Volodymyr Zelensky in achieving sustainable peace in Ukraine,” von der Leyen concluded.
