The counting of preferential votes for the Tirana district has officially concluded.
Blerina Gjylameti failed to secure a seat in the new Parliament, while Olta Xhaçka managed to win a mandate. The race between the two Socialist Party women was neck-and-neck for several days, with Xhaçka finishing with 6,213 votes, narrowly ahead of Gjylameti’s 6,085 votes.
Some other well-known Socialist figures have also failed to make it into Parliament. Pandeli Majko received 6,513 votes but did not secure a seat. He was followed by Etilda Gjonaj with 5,526 votes, and Plarent Ndreca, who lost his mandate after receiving 4,887 votes.
Lower on the list are Ermonela Felaj with 4,491 votes, and Mimi Kodheli with 4,296 votes.
On the Democratic Party (PD) side, Jorida Tabaku was the only candidate from the open list to win a seat, with an impressive 20,484 votes. Well-known doctor Ilir Alimehmeti gathered 18,055 votes, but did not secure a mandate.
From the PD-ASHM opposition coalition, Ilir Meta, president of the Freedom Party (PL), failed to enter Parliament, receiving 7,962 votes. However, two PL candidates from the closed list, Tedi Blushi and Erisa Xhixho, will enter Parliament.
From the Party for Justice, Unity and Integration (PDU), Mesila Doda enters Parliament as part of the closed list.
