Today, a proposal for a vote of no confidence against the Prime Minister of Serbia, Miloš Vučević, was submitted to the Serbian Parliament, signed by 71 members of the opposition. The motion cites significant failures in carrying out his responsibilities, which, according to the opposition, led to the collapse of the country’s safety system and the tragic accident on November 1st when the canopy of the Novi Sad Railway Station entrance collapsed, resulting in 14 fatalities.

The proposal details that the Novi Sad Railway Station was officially opened on July 5th of this year, yet the completion of work was only registered on October 7th. The responsible ministry allegedly allowed the building to be used by the public without an occupancy permit. There was no expert oversight during the construction process, and Vučević was the mayor of Novi Sad during the project, which included the reconstruction of the Novi Sad – Subotica railway and the station building.

“Prime Minister Miloš Vučević failed to take any actions within his authority to calm the public or prevent such tragedies from happening again,” the opposition members wrote in their statement.
