The Central Election Commission (CEC) spokesperson, Valmir Elezi, stated in a press conference that counting of votes for mayoral candidates and votes for political parties in municipal assemblies has been completed at 2,571 regular polling stations.
After the completion of counting and related procedures, election materials from 948 polling stations have been collected and sent to 38 Municipal Counting Centers.
Elezi explained that under the General Elections Law, votes for mayors and political parties are counted at polling stations immediately after voting, while votes for municipal assembly members are counted at Municipal Counting Centers through designated counting teams.
Regarding the counting of assembly members’ votes, he announced that after three municipalities, the process is continuing in 35 more.
He added that in these centers, according to the CEC Regulation for Municipal Counting Centers, verification of results from polling station forms will also take place after ballot counting.
“The process started at 12:00 in three municipalities and at 16:00 in the other 35. In all 38 Municipal Counting Centers, work will be carried out in two shifts. The CEC has appointed over 520 counting teams with more than 2,000 members,” Elezi said.
He emphasized that counting and verification will be carried out with full transparency and under the observation of monitors.
Additionally, the CEC facilitated:
- Voting at 2,571 regular polling stations
- Conditional voting at 54 other stations
- Out-of-polling-station voting for 3,467 voters with special needs via mobile teams
