Acting Serbian Prime Minister, Miloš Vučević, stated on Friday in Sarajevo that a potential U.S. withdrawal from KFOR would make security conditions in Kosovo “complex.”

In response to questions about German media reports indicating that American troops may withdraw from the Bondsteel base in Kosovo, Vučević explained that any potential exit of the U.S. from KFOR would depend on a decision by U.S. President Donald Trump and his administration. He noted that Serbia would closely monitor the situation.

“This could complicate the security conditions in Kosovo, and all geopolitical developments regarding Ukraine and NATO partner relations will have an impact,” Vučević said after meeting with Serbian Orthodox Metropolitan Hrizostom of Dabar-Bosnia.

He emphasized that under the Kumanovo Agreement, KFOR is responsible for the security of all people in Kosovo, particularly the Serb population. He added that any scenario in which the Kosovo Security Force would replace KFOR in Serb communities would be absolutely unacceptable.

“For us, this is very dangerous, and we don’t know if America will relocate its forces within Europe. We will observe the situation to assess what this means for the security of the Republic of Serbia and Serbs in Kosovo,” Vučević concluded.
