Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, speaking at a forum titled “The Future, Not the Past,” accused opposition parties in Serbia of receiving money from abroad to “finish everything with Kosovo.”
His comments come amid protests organized by university students and the opposition in Serbia over the deaths caused by the collapse of a concrete shelter at a railway station in Novi Sad.
Vučić went on to state that as long as he is president and this government remains in power, there will be no recognition of Kosovo’s independence, reports Danas, as cited by Gazeta Express.
“We have only one Serbia, one homeland, and we will not give it to anyone, not to Kosovo, not to anyone in Serbia as a whole, not to those who are paid from abroad, or anyone else.”
“When you see how much money has been sent to opposition political parties directly from abroad, and nothing has come of it, free cheese is only in the mouse trap. For that money, you have to do dirty work, and when you do it, you will be fine with them,” Vučić said.
He further claimed that the powerful figures from abroad, who he says are not from the region, have a vested interest in this “dirty work for several reasons.”
“Firstly, they are trying to finalize everything with Kosovo as soon as possible, and they see that as long as I am president and as long as this government is in power, we will not recognize its independence at any price. They don’t need it because they love the Albanians so much and hate the Serbs so much, but they want to tell Putin not to refer to the Kosovo precedent when speaking about Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, and Crimea because they have made a bilateral agreement between Belgrade and Pristina,” Vučić concluded.
