Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić announced that he is on a working visit to Budapest, where he will hold a new meeting with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.

Vučić confirmed the upcoming meeting on Friday, stating that he and Orbán will discuss a wide range of key topics.

“I will speak with Orbán about everything — from energy cooperation to various forms of collaboration between Serbia and Hungary. We have excellent relations and wish to deepen them further,” Vučić said on October 17.

Just a day earlier, Vučić said he had spoken by phone with Orbán, congratulating him on the upcoming meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, set to take place in Budapest.

In May 2025, Orbán visited Belgrade, leading a Hungarian delegation for high-level talks with Vučić. The discussions covered geopolitical and foreign policy issues, economic cooperation, as well as defense, security, and military-industrial collaboration.

Hungary’s government, led by Orbán, remains a key political ally of President Vučić, with both leaders emphasizing that Serbia–Hungary relations are at a historic high.

The two countries signed a Strategic Partnership Agreement on January 20, 2023, solidified through multiple joint projects — including the construction of an oil pipeline between Novi Sad and Hungary, gas trade agreements, road infrastructure projects, and agricultural cooperation.

Since July 2014, the two governments have held six joint sessions, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in all areas.

With over €2 billion in annual trade exchange, Hungary is Serbia’s third-largest trading partner, after Germany and Italy.

In recognition of their close ties, Vučić was awarded the Grand Cross of the Hungarian Order of Merit with a Necklace and Star with Golden Rays on February 17, 2025, following Orbán’s proposal.
Earlier, in September 2022, Vučić presented Orbán with the Order of the Republic of Serbia on the Grand Collar for his exceptional contribution to strengthening bilateral relations and friendship.
