Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić stated that he had a discussion with James O’Brien, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and Eurasia, about the “escalating situation” in Kosovo.

In a social media post, Vučić shared that the meeting, which took place in Brussels, also covered current global developments and the growing security risks.

“I reiterated Serbia’s unwavering position to promote peace and maintain stability, seeking strong and clear support from our American partners in our efforts,” Vučić stated.

Earlier in the day, Vučić said that Belgrade is ready to cooperate in an investigation with all international organizations and institutions regarding the explosion at the Ibar-Lepenc water canal in Zubin Potok, Kosovo.

“If [the explosion] was carried out by someone of Serbian ethnicity, and they are in the territory under Serbia’s effective control, they will be arrested immediately. So far, we have no such information,” Vučić told journalists in Belgrade.

He emphasized that Serbia is ready to cooperate in accordance with the Brussels Agreement and, in some ways, with the institutions in Pristina, without jeopardizing Serbia’s sovereignty and independence.

Vučić stated that who the perpetrator is matters less; the more important issue is who stands behind the explosion, dismissing the possibility that Russia was involved.

The explosion occurred on November 29 in the village of Varragë, in the Zubin Potok municipality—a predominantly Serb municipality in the north of Kosovo.

Kosovo police have stated that the attack was carried out using up to 20 kilograms of explosives.

The Iber-Lepenc canal supplies water from the Ujman Lake to the entire northern region of Kosovo, including the Mitrovica area, Prishtina and surrounding regions, as well as the Kosovo Energy Corporation for cooling its thermal power plants.

Kosovo authorities have blamed Serbia for the attack, but Belgrade has denied any involvement.

The explosion in Zubin Potok has been strongly condemned by the international community.
