Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić stated unequivocally that “no one should hope that Serbia will recognize Kosovo’s independence.”
He referred to an interview he gave on CNN with Christiane Amanpour, claiming that his answer regarding Kosovo’s recognition was not fully broadcast.
“Even today, my answer is the same: don’t hold your hopes on this, it will not happen,” Vučić said, according to Novosti.
Commenting on former Kosovo Prime Minister Avdullah Hoti’s remarks that the non-implementation of the Washington Agreement was “a missed opportunity for Kosovo,” Vučić said the deal was economic in nature, but claimed that Kosovo had not implemented any of its provisions.
“I rejected their political parts that had nothing to do with the economy. They have not implemented any agreement, but my problem is not with them. This was an economic agreement and they have not respected it,” the Serbian president said.
Vučić added that the U.S. administration under Joe Biden has attempted to promote other agreements, sidelining the Brussels Agreement.
“That cannot happen. The Brussels Agreement must be implemented, and the Association of Serb-Majority Municipalities must be formed. Otherwise, what we are seeing is just the use of violence and sheer force,” Vučić declared.
