Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić announced today that national elections will be held by the end of the year, with the possibility of them taking place by Vidovdan, June 28.

Speaking to TV Informer, Vučić commented on the recent local elections in ten municipalities, noting that student-led electoral lists “had no chance” and were unable to report results in any of the areas where they participated.

“Everything will proceed calmly. They have no chance. Their anger reflects complete powerlessness and despair. Regarding candidacies, elections will be announced by year-end, maybe even by Vidovdan. We will see when exactly. The people’s voice will prevail—‘vox populi, vox dei,’” Vučić said.

He criticized the student lists for making unsubstantiated accusations about double voter lists and call centers, stating that they do not understand electoral processes and require education on democratic procedures.

Vučić also addressed reports of violence during the local elections, noting that while the Council of Europe and the European Union commented on the incidents, they did not identify the perpetrators, despite public awareness of the events.

He questioned the purpose of artillery blanks found at the University of Belgrade Rectorate, suggesting that while gas masks might be explained as preparation for tear gas, the role of artillery blanks remains unclear.

Regarding allegations by opposition-aligned media that he was panicked and using TV Informer to communicate, Vučić said he was merely trying to calm citizens: “We need to reassure the majority of decent Serbia, so they do not react hastily. These are still our sisters and brothers.”

Vučić emphasized that authorities are handling investigations and promised that citizens would soon learn the full extent of what had been concealed, referring to preparations and misleading information surrounding the Rectorate incident.
