The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, stated on Friday that “everyone is preparing for war” and accused Kosovo of attempting to use the current situation to convince the majority of European countries and NATO to side with Pristina.

Vučić made these remarks following a call by Kosovo’s President, Vjosa Osmani, urging Europe to prevent Serbia’s “aggressive and destabilizing tactics toward its neighbors.” He further claimed that the world is heading toward a “major conflict,” asserting that international actors are preparing for war rather than negotiations, although he provided no concrete evidence to support these claims.

He nevertheless assured that Serbia would do its utmost to avoid being drawn into any conflict.

Meanwhile, President Osmani has warned of the threats posed by Belgrade to the Western Balkans. She accused Serbia of mimicking Russia’s actions and called on the European Union not to reward it. Osmani also emphasized that, in the absence of Western influence, Russia, China, and Iran will pursue their strategic interests in the region.

She reiterated the importance of advancing EU enlargement and integrating the Western Balkans, stressing that countries meeting the EU criteria and upholding its values should be allowed to move forward.

During her recent visit to the United States, Osmani highlighted that Belgrade remains a continuous threat to Pristina and praised the role of U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration in preventing an escalation between Kosovo and Serbia.
