Belgrade, Serbia – Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić appeared on the morning program “Jutro” on Prva TV, discussing a wide range of domestic and international topics.

Government Session and Priorities

Vučić emphasized the importance of today’s government session, focusing on plans and programs that he believes will interest the public. He underlined the need for ministers to act responsibly, dedicating themselves to public service rather than personal gain. Vučić stressed that 2026 could be Serbia’s best economic year if stability and dedication are maintained.

He noted challenges in energy projects, particularly EKSP, and stressed the need for accelerated progress on strategic initiatives such as data centers and artificial intelligence, pointing out the importance of sufficient electricity for future development.

Governance and Responsibility

The President underlined his daily scrutiny of ministers and officials, emphasizing personal accountability. He criticized previous administrations for lacking dedication and insisted that public service requires effort and sacrifice.

Davos and International Relations

Vučić highlighted his extensive participation in Davos, stating he has attended 12 times, reflecting both respect for Serbia and for him personally. He described the global atmosphere as tense, with widespread uncertainty and competition, particularly within U.S. political currents.

Regarding Kosovo, Greenland, and broader geopolitical issues, Vučić stressed that Serbia must protect its interests while remaining on a European path. He expressed gratitude toward the U.S. for cooperation, highlighting positive developments such as visa policies and support for Republika Srpska, while maintaining strong relations with China, the UAE, and African countries.

He notably criticized the lack of engagement by the audience during Trump’s speech at Davos:

“Trump is charming and can make people laugh, but the audience there is too serious to always react to jokes. I witnessed unprecedented nervousness and fear among the world’s most powerful leaders, but almost no willingness to participate.”

Economy and Social Progress

Vučić pointed out that Serbia’s average salary now exceeds Bosnia and Herzegovina’s by approximately €170. The country maintains a low public debt of 40.9%, allowing for financial stability. He highlighted strategic gas agreements with Russia, securing lower prices, and stressed his personal involvement in key negotiations.

Domestic Politics and Security

The President spoke on internal security, accusing certain officials and parts of the police of attempting a “colored revolution” without elections, while emphasizing accountability for those who failed in their duties. He discussed measures in the General Staff, including creating a museum of victims, and criticized ministers and officials for inefficiency and personal enrichment.

Vučić also criticized opposition politicians and activists, claiming they prioritize trivial matters over national interests and citizen welfare.

Historical Issues

Regarding Jasenovac, Vučić stated that historical records are clear and that it is unacceptable to label the site as a “controversial topic.” He condemned attempts to distort or downplay historical facts about Serbian victims.

Sports and Personal Anecdotes

Vučić expressed his support for Serbian national teams in water polo, handball, and basketball. He recounted personal interactions with international leaders, including sending a congratulatory message to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán after a water polo match.

Message to Citizens

Vučić concluded with a direct appeal to the Serbian people:

“My job is to protect Serbia. We must safeguard our country, work hard, and make this year the best economically. I will insist that all public servants work harder than last year.”
