Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić is set to deliver a surprise public address today at 6:00 PM from Andrićev Venac, sparking speculation over the motive behind the emergency announcement.

While the presidency has not officially disclosed the topic, media close to the government suggest the speech is a response to serious accusations made by Marinika Tepić, vice president of the opposition Freedom and Justice Party (SSP), who alleged that Serbia’s top leadership is linked to drug cartels. According to her, packets of cocaine allegedly featured the image of President Vučić, prompting intense public and media scrutiny.

Election Announcement Possible?

Other rumors point to a potential announcement of snap elections, a move that would follow mounting student protests and growing demands for a parliamentary reset.

Student groups, who have been protesting for over six months, formally demanded the dissolution of the National Assembly and new elections on May 5, citing government inaction and lack of transparency.

Vučić previously stated that students “won’t have to wait long” for elections, but no official date has been given. The pressure has since escalated with organized marches and road blockades led by student groups vowing to continue until elections are confirmed.
