The Independent Association of Journalists of Serbia (NUNS) has today called on authorities to “stop the criminalization of journalists and media owners.”

“NUNS strongly condemns the daily targeting of employees at United Group led by Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić and Speaker of the Serbian Parliament Ana Brnabić,” the statement reads.

According to them, in the past month alone, journalists working at United Group media have received six serious death threats and there has been one attack.

“This is the result of a campaign being conducted from the highest state level against United Group. The latest in the series were statements by Aleksandar Vučić claiming that United Group owner Dragan Šolak had the idea of killing him, and Ana Brnabić’s accusation on the social network X that ‘calls for the murder of Aleksandar Vučić are becoming more open and brutal every day in all Šolak’s media’,” the statement continues.

Such accusations, according to NUNS, reflect on journalists working in media published by UG and threaten their safety.

“Threats made by journalists at United Group have been reported, and we call on competent institutions to respond immediately,” the statement adds.
