Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic met with the Russian Ambassador to Belgrade, Aleksandr Bocan-Harchenko, to discuss the “difficult situation” of Serbs in Kosovo.

Following the meeting on September 6, Vučić posted on Instagram that he “also informed him of how challenging the position of the Serbian people [in Kosovo] is,” adding that “it seems to me that we have found understanding from the Russian side on this matter.”

Bocan-Harchenko stated that Russia is “aware of the difficult situation in Kosovo,” according to the Beta news agency.

“Kosovo will be one of the priorities during the so-called ministerial session at the General Assembly of the United Nations. In October, a Security Council session is expected, which will also provide an opportunity for Russia to present its principled stance, based on Resolution 1244, for the protection of Serbs living in Kosovo,” said Bocan-Harchenko.

Russia is one of Serbia’s biggest allies, and Belgrade enjoys its strong support in opposing Kosovo’s independence.

The meeting between Vučić and the Russian ambassador took place on the same day Serbian associations blocked the crossing points on the Serbian side of the border with Kosovo in protest against the closure of parallel Serbian institutions in Kosovo.
