Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has once again used global events to portray himself as a victim before his people. His comments came amid ongoing protests in Serbia following the tragic collapse of a tent at a train station in Novi Sad, which resulted in the deaths of 15 people.
Vučić claimed that large amounts of money are being invested from abroad to “destroy Serbia,” but insisted that Serbia would ultimately prevail. “Foreign investments are being made to destroy Serbia and its freedom, but I guarantee you, Serbia will win,” said Vučić.
He went on to describe this as a difficult moment for the country, emphasizing the pressure Serbia faces from all sides, including hybrid attacks aimed at destabilizing the nation. “When we are being attacked by all means, when they try to overthrow Serbia, and in such moments we continue to build railways and roads — this is something special, and I am particularly proud of it,” said Vučić, who referred to Serbia as a “free state,” despite international reports suggesting otherwise.
Vučić also stressed that he would expose the full extent of the financial efforts aimed at undermining Serbia, stating that this would be revealed in the coming days and weeks. “Serbia is not free, it does not make its own decisions, it does not choose its own future; it must serve and listen to others. To those who want to destroy Serbia: we will not serve anyone!” he declared.
He further expressed his determination to fight for his country, stating that he would serve only the Serbian people and all citizens of Serbia. “If you think I am Assad, then I will leave somewhere — I am not. I am alive, I have lived my whole life in Serbia, I am grateful to my country, and I will stay here. This is the place where I will end. I will fight for Serbia and serve only my people,” said Vučić.
He also reiterated his commitment to never serving foreign powers or those who seek to humiliate and destroy Serbia. “I hope you understand me well. I am so determined and certain about what I am saying that I guarantee you will never defeat Serbia. Long live Serbia!” he added.
Vučić also highlighted the positive economic developments for Serbia, saying that 2024 would be the best year for foreign direct investment. He revealed that Serbia had surpassed a record year for foreign investments in 2023 and was expecting even more investments in the next 20 days. He also confirmed that Serbia had received recognition from the IMF for its previous efforts and had secured a new three-year arrangement for future investments.
