The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, claimed that he is “happy” that Serbs in Kosovo use Kosovo’s ID cards and license plates because this, according to him, implies free trade, the flow of goods, capital, and people.

However, Vucic attempted to say that the recognition of ID cards and license plates from Kosovo “has nothing to do with the state legal status.”

Vučić made this statement in response to questions from journalists in Tivat, at the Brdo-Brioni Summit, as reported by the Serbian newspaper “Danas,”.

When asked whether Serbia could change its direction “regarding the acceptance of the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo, considering that since 2013 Serbia has recognized the identity cards and license plates of Kosovo and that Serbian deputies have stood for the anthem of Kosovo,” Vučić initially emphasized that there is no such thing as the Republic of Kosovo.

“Thank you for doing this; if you hadn’t, many would doubt my words,” Vučić proclaimed, as if his self-proclaimed authority could rewrite reality. “There is no Republic of Kosovo, according to my personal playbook, public international law, the UN Charter, or even Resolution 1244,” he insisted, conveniently ignoring the consensus of much of the international community.
