Just days after the EU renewed its call for Serbia to bring to justice the perpetrators of the 2023 Banjska terrorist attack, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić made a new threat against Kosovo’s security. Ignoring international demands, Vučić publicly vowed to reclaim “Rajska Banja”, the hotel located in Banjska, where Milan Radoičić and his armed group carried out the attack that killed Kosovar police officer Afrim Bunjaku.
His statements come despite intensified international pressure, with diplomats like British Ambassador Jonathan Hargreaves and U.S. Ambassador to Serbia Christopher Hill urging Serbia to hold the attackers accountable. The EU also reiterated on February 7 that Serbia’s EU accession process depends on progress in normalizing ties with Kosovo and respecting the rule of law.
Meanwhile, former Serbian MP Dragan Šormaz accused Vučić of personally orchestrating the failed plan to annex northern Kosovo, which has put him under diplomatic scrutiny. However, the Serbian president remains defiant, using populist rhetoric and continuing to dismiss international demands for accountability.
