Martin Vulaj from the Albanian-American Civic League spoke about the recent attention Kosovo has received in the U.S. Senate regarding regional developments.
According to Vulaj, the only real channel through which Kosovo can attract sustained attention from the United States is the sphere of security.
“It’s very positive that we are seeing new Senate hearings on Kosovo, even though the discussion had a broader Balkan context. As we saw, the core issue remains the resolution of Kosovo’s status,” Vulaj stated.
He noted that the Balkans and Kosovo in particular had gone through a long period of declining U.S. interest, but the renewed focus proves Kosovo’s essential role in maintaining stability in Southeast Europe.
“The main challenge, during this era of major global shifts in the world order led by the United States is how to draw at least some attention to our issue. The only way we can do that is by aligning our interests with those of the U.S. And the primary area where those interests converge is security,” Vulaj emphasized.
