Starting January 1, 2026, citizens of Kosovo are facing higher water bills following a decision by the Autoriteti Rregullator për Shërbimet e Ujit to implement a three-year tariff review.
According to Arjeta Mjeku, spokesperson for KRU Prishtina, the increase is the result of higher electricity costs, water treatment expenses, operational expenditures, and investments in maintaining water supply and sewage infrastructure.
She explained that after requests submitted by all regional water companies and subsequent analysis by the regulator, the volumetric tariff for water services has risen from €0.44 to €0.63 per cubic meter for household consumers. Meanwhile, the volumetric tariff for wastewater services has been set at €0.12 for the residential sector.
Mjeku noted that the decision applies to a three-year period as determined by the regulatory authority. Regarding the potential increase in electricity prices expected in March, she stated that there is currently no official decision that would directly affect water bills.
The regulatory authority confirmed that the new tariffs also apply to several other regional water companies, including KRU Hidroregjioni Jugor, KRU Hidrodrini, KRU Mitrovica, KRU Gjakova, KRU Bifurkacioni, and KRU Hidromorava.
The increase comes at a time when citizens are already dealing with rising living costs, adding further pressure to household budgets across the country.
