Water levels in rivers across the Balkans have fallen to record lows, disrupting navigation and exposing large sections of riverbeds.
On the Danube near Batina, in northeastern Croatia close to the Serbian border, vast sandy banks have emerged as water levels have dropped.
Some of these areas can now be crossed on foot.
At a nearby measuring station, the Danube stood at -158 centimetres on Sunday.
The low water levels are also affecting river traffic.
Near Šarengrad, several cargo vessels have been unable to navigate the Danube.
On the Drava River near Osijek, receding waters have exposed parts of the riverbed, including vessels that had remained submerged for a long time.
The retreating waters are a stark reminder of the severity of the drought affecting the region.
