Kosovo has achieved a significant milestone in its energy and water management infrastructure. Hysen Durmishi, the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure, announced the successful activation of the bypass in the Ibër-Lepenc Canal, ensuring a sufficient water supply for both the Kosovo Energy Corporation (KEK) and regional water utilities (KRU).
In a statement, Durmishi highlighted that the bypass was completed and fully functional in less than a week. The water flow was initiated earlier today, ensuring the necessary resources for both the power sector and water utilities in the region. This development comes as a vital response to the pressing needs for water management and energy production in Kosovo.
“Just moments ago, we released water through the bypass, ensuring there will be sufficient supply for KEK and KRU operations,” Durmishi said. He also confirmed that, starting next week, permanent repairs on the Ibër-Lepenc Canal will begin to ensure long-term stability and efficiency.
The Ibër-Lepenc Canal serves as a critical water source for energy generation and public water distribution. This move marks a crucial step toward stabilizing the region’s energy and water sectors, reflecting Kosovo’s commitment to infrastructure development and sustainability.
