The Vetëvendosje Movement (LVV) candidate for mayor of Prishtina, Hajrulla Çeku, stated that his party achieved a very good result in the October 12 local elections, describing it as the first step toward victory in the upcoming runoff election.
According to the Central Election Commission (CEC), Çeku is in a tight race with the LDK candidate, Përparim Rama.
Speaking at a midnight press conference, Çeku emphasized that his team takes the race very seriously and does not underestimate any opponent.
“This is a very good result. It’s our first step toward our great victory in Prishtina. All our structures are mobilized. Starting tomorrow, we will continue working until the runoff day — meeting citizens again, explaining our vision, because we’ve seen that there’s a strong desire for change in Prishtina. We don’t underestimate anyone; we take this race very seriously, but we are confident of victory. We’ve seen this enthusiasm among the citizens. We ask for everyone’s support — a coalition with citizens to bring change to Prishtina,” Çeku said.
He also pledged a responsible and collaborative approach to local governance:
“I can assure you that the word ‘blockade’ will never be part of my leadership. I won’t make excuses. If something can’t move forward, I’ll take responsibility myself. I will govern with accountability and an open invitation for cooperation — striving for maximum consensus. Where I don’t succeed, I won’t blame others, but will take responsibility. When a mayor has the will to move things forward, solutions are always found. I propose a more moderate approach — one that brings people together rather than divides them.”
Çeku also commented on LVV’s performance across the country, saying the movement has retained control in all municipalities it previously governed and won outright in Podujeva, Kamenica, and Shtime, while awaiting results in Gjilan.
He concluded by announcing that LVV leader Albin Kurti will hold a press conference on Monday at 10:00 AM at the party’s central headquarters.
