The Speaker of the Kuvendi i Kosovës, Albulena Haxhiu, has stated that March 5 is the final constitutional deadline for completing the election of Kosovo’s new President.
Haxhiu emphasized that the situation is becoming increasingly urgent, as fewer than 30 hours remain before the deadline expires.
“Based on Article 36, the election of the President must take place no later than 30 days before the end of the current President’s mandate. The final deadline is March 5, 2026 — that is tomorrow. Currently, we have less than 30 hours until this deadline, which makes the situation even more urgent,” Haxhiu declared.
She reiterated that she cannot convene a parliamentary session for the presidential election unless at least two candidates are formally proposed, each supported by the required number of signatures.
Haxhiu once again called on political parties to submit an additional candidacy in order to enable the process to move forward within the constitutional timeframe.
