Finland’s Foreign Minister, Elina Valtonen, stated that Finland supports Kosovo on its path to Euro-Atlantic integration and is working to strengthen security in Europe.
She further emphasized that Kosovo deserves its place in the EU.
“We stand by Kosovo, and we see that Kosovo deserves its place in the European Union and in all other organizations. I want to say that we are very supportive of Kosovo’s Euro-Atlantic integration, and we truly want the entire Western Balkans region to experience rapid reforms and stability, which would enable the region’s accession to the EU,” she told KP.
According to the Finnish Foreign Minister, the commitment to protecting fundamental values such as the rule of law, democracy, and human rights, as well as security and peace in Europe, are the main priorities of her country.
“Our main priorities are indeed based on values that we have held sacred throughout, such as the rule of law, democracy, human rights, and equality.”
“Based on these, we implement our national foreign and security policy, certainly considering the circumstances in which we live. Unfortunately, the ongoing war in Europe, notably Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, significantly affects our security environment. Therefore, strengthening our defense and deterrents together with our allies and partners is undoubtedly a priority. The second priority is striving for peace and stability throughout Europe, so that we can ensure a future for all people based on the values of democracy and freedom, which are essential elements of our foreign security policy,” she said.
Valtonen has visited Kosovo and met with the country’s highest officials.
