Several students at “Ismail Qemali” Primary School in Pristina boycotted classes on Wednesday after being forced to change classrooms due to sewage flooding in the first days of the new school year.

Students carried banners with slogans such as “We want knowledge, not sewage” and “School is not a public restroom.” One student reportedly wrote: “We missed learning, you forced us to boycott.”

According to earlier reports by KOHA, sewage overflow from manholes filled the school courtyard and caused a strong odor in the ground floor classrooms. The school year also began with damaged bathrooms, as renovation work and sewage network repairs were not completed during the summer break.

The situation has raised concerns among parents and guardians attending the school.

The school principal stated that there is an agreement with the Municipal Directorate of Education to carry out a complete renovation of the school, expected to begin in March 2026.

The municipality has not yet issued a response regarding the incident.
