American General Wesley Clark emphasized that he is proud to have led NATO’s 11-week bombing campaign aimed at halting the violence of Serbian forces against Albanians in Kosovo, which ultimately led to Kosovo’s liberation. He stated that Serbia must accept a future without Kosovo.
Clark declared that Serbia needs to recognize Kosovo and move forward by accepting this reality.
“I don’t like to see tensions. All diplomats have said they are working with the hope of a solution, but Serbia must acknowledge the facts, and the facts are that there were crimes, killings in Kosovo during Milošević’s rule. There was ethnic cleansing, both in Bosnia and Kosovo, where people were attacked, killed, and they cannot just return and live peacefully with each other. Serbia must accept Kosovo, accept a future without Kosovo. Why not have good relations, tourism, and trade with each other? Stop the attacks; the past is over,” he said to ABC News.
