The rise in measles cases in Kosovo has raised new concerns among the public and within the healthcare system. Speaking about the current situation and the possible consequences of this disease, Dr. Arben Vishaj, Director of the Infectious Disease Clinic at the University Clinical Center of Kosovo (QKUK), provided key insights.

He confirmed that several measles patients are currently hospitalized at the clinic.

“Patients present with high fever, skin rashes, cough, and sometimes with serious complications such as pneumonia or brain inflammation (encephalitis),” Dr. Vishaj explained.

According to him, unvaccinated children remain the most at risk, as measles can lead to severe consequences — including neurological complications, damage to the immune system, and in extreme cases, even death.

Dr. Vishaj urged parents to vaccinate their children on time, following the official immunization calendar, in order to prevent such outbreaks of contagious diseases.
