A referendum for the secession of the Republika Srpska (RS), the removal of the powers of the Court and the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina in this entity’s territory, and withdrawal from state institutions.
These are the options that Milorad Dodik, the President of the Republika Srpska, is threatening with if the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina convicts him for not respecting the decisions of the High Representative.
In addition to Dodik, Milos Lukić, the acting director of the Official Gazette of RS, is also on trial.
If found guilty, they face prison sentences of up to five years, dismissal from office, and a ban on holding public office.
The final word in the trial against Dodik and Lukić will be presented on February 19, after which the court panel has three days to reach a decision—an extension may be requested as per their request.
Dodik, his political associates, and coalition partners, in a meeting in Banja Luka on the evening of February 17, decided that the RS is “ready to make radical decisions” if a convicting decision is announced.
After the meeting, it was announced that all representatives of the Republika Srpska in the state institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina would suspend their work in the event of a convicting decision.
Additionally, an initiative was announced for the National Assembly of RS to be in “permanent session due to the current social and political situation.”
The Constitution of RS already stipulates that this legislative body works in a permanent session, and its sessions are called by the Speaker of the Parliament.
On the day of the final session, February 19, the Government of RS will meet with all the mayors of municipalities and cities in RS, after which a meeting will be held.
