As President Donald Trump and leaders from the Middle East signed what they described as a historic ceasefire agreement on Monday, one critical question remained: What exactly did it say?
A photo taken by a journalist in the room offers some insight — as the president lifted the signed page toward the press.
The upper half of the document contains a series of commitments and guiding principles, including references to “tolerance, dignity, and equal opportunity for every person.”
“We seek tolerance, dignity, and equal opportunity for every person, ensuring that this region becomes a place where all can pursue their aspirations in peace, security, and economic prosperity, regardless of race, faith, or ethnicity,” reads the opening paragraph on the final page.
The lower half of the page includes the signatures and titles of the regional leaders and mediators of the ceasefire — representing the United States, Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey.
