The Ukrainian government is organizing a meeting between President Volodymyr Zelensky and the newly elected U.S. President, Donald Trump.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha confirmed the plans during a joint press conference with EU High Representative Josep Borrell in Kyiv on Saturday, just days after Trump secured a historic second term in the White House.
“Dialogue between Trump and Zelensky is already set,” Sybiha said, following reports that the two leaders had already held a phone call, which was also joined by billionaire Elon Musk.
Sybiha added, “We are open to further cooperation.”
Trump and Zelensky last met in New York at the end of September when the Ukrainian leader traveled to the U.S. to present his “victory plan” for defeating Russia.
The main points of the plan include additional deliveries of Western weapons to Kyiv and an invitation for Ukraine to join NATO in the near future.
“Trump’s election victory has global consequences,” Sybiha emphasized.
While the U.S. has been Ukraine’s most important ally since Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022, Trump has repeatedly threatened to withdraw support for Kyiv.
