Recently, Kosovo signed a contract with the Turkish company “Makine ve Kimya Endüstrisi” (MKE) to establish its first ammunition factory.
The Minister of Defense, Ejup Maqedonci, stated that the process will not take long and the country will soon have its own ammunition.
“I estimate that based on the agreement and the timelines set, it won’t take more than two years. It will be just over a year,” Maqedonci told Klan Kosova.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Albin Kurti warned two days ago that terrorist groups are planning further attacks in Kosovo during the New Year’s holidays, following the attack on the Ibër-Lepenc canal.
However, the Kosovo army is prepared to respond to any threat, according to Maqedonci.
He added that the recently purchased advanced weapons from the USA, Turkey, and Germany have significantly increased Kosovo’s defense capabilities.
“We have tripled the budget for the army during this mandate, and we have managed to purchase Bayraktar drones and other very important systems. Javelin missiles are crucial for tank defense. We hope to have them by 2025,” Maqedonci stated.
According to the minister, “Javelin missiles prevent armored vehicles and tanks from entering the territory.”
While confirming that Kosovo will adhere to the commitment made in 2013 not to send its army to the north for the time being, Maqedonci emphasized that this issue will be reviewed in the future.
