Shqipe Mehmet-Selimi, wife of former LVV MP and former UÇK commander Rexhep Selimi, addressed criticism on social media following the protest held on August 7th in support of former UÇK leaders currently on trial at The Hague.

She criticized the way her name was publicly mentioned as a reason for not attending the protest, emphasizing that she was not the only family member absent, but her name was singled out to attack the Vetëvendosje Movement.

“If I were to protest about something, I would start with this fact: 82 MPs voted in favor of establishing the Special Court – 30 from PDK, 34 from LDK, and 18 from minority community parties. I am sure some of them were at the protest, fiercely opposing what they themselves voted for,” Selimi wrote.

She described the situation at The Hague as a direct consequence of that political decision, implying that the responsibility lies with those who voted to create the Special Court in the Kosovo Assembly.

“If I were to protest about something, I would start with this fact:

82 MPs voted for the establishment of the Special Court:

  • 30 from PDK
  • 34 from LDK
  • 18 from minority community parties.

I am sure some of them were at the protest, fiercely opposing what they themselves voted for.

And regarding the recent injustices happening currently in The Hague, these are a direct consequence of that decision.

I was not the only family member absent at the protest, but only my name was mentioned by portals to attack the VETËVENDOSJE Movement!”
