The political deadlock that the country has entered, following repeated failed attempts to constitute the Assembly, has prompted the President of Kosovo not to remain idle.

President Vjosa Osmani has invited all political parties for a meeting this Thursday to discuss possible ways out of the political crisis that has gripped the country for several months.

This initiative by President Osmani has been welcomed by experts in political and legal affairs.

However, they remain skeptical that the situation will improve significantly as a result of these meetings.

Legal expert Mazllum Baraliu told IndeksOnline that the President’s ability to help is voluntary in nature and carries no binding force.

According to him, only a political agreement among the parties represented in the Assembly can help overcome this situation.

“It is in the hands of the political parties to find a solution. The President’s help is only voluntary in nature,” Baraliu said.

Professor of political science, Nexhmedin Spahiu, shares the same view.

He does not believe that meetings between the political parties and President Osmani will bring any concrete results.

“It’s up to the political parties to sit down and reach an agreement. I think Albin Kurti must show flexibility and make concessions if he wants to see the creation of new institutions,” Spahiu said.

Even after the 15th attempt, the Assembly has still not been constituted. Vetëvendosje has, once again, tried to change the method of voting for the election of the Speaker of the Assembly from an open to a secret ballot something that is being opposed by the opposition parties. The Assembly is scheduled to meet again on Thursday.
