Residents of “Ferid Curri” Street in the Arbëria neighborhood of Pristina have been facing severe water shortages for several days, a situation that has significantly disrupted their daily lives.
One resident said that they are without water more often than they have it. According to him, water is available for only two hours per day, causing serious difficulties for households.
He also expressed suspicion that the Pristina Regional Water Company (KRU Prishtina) has deliberately reduced water supply to their area in order to prioritize Fushë Kosovë, as both municipalities are supplied from Batllava Lake.
“Recently, KRU Prishtina has been supplying only Fushë Kosovë through Batllava, while they are secured with water following adjustments made there,” the resident said.
In response to these complaints, KRU Prishtina stated that the shortages were caused by recent flooding, which led to increased water turbidity at the source.
“This situation was created as a result of increased turbidity at the water source, which directly affected the treatment process, as well as due to the reduced capacity of the treatment plant. Consequently, the amount of treated and distributed water is lower than the actual needs of consumers,” the company said.
The water utility added that its teams are working to stabilize the situation and restore normal supply as soon as possible, urging citizens to conserve water until conditions improve.
“Due to the lack of water from Batllava, we are currently attempting to distribute limited quantities from Shkabaj, given the current circumstances,” KRU Prishtina explained.
Despite these clarifications, residents of Arbëria suspect that the disparity between their water shortages and the uninterrupted supply in Fushë Kosovë may be linked to the alleged closeness between KRU Prishtina’s CEO Arsim Fetahu and Fushë Kosovë Mayor Valon Prebreza.
The Municipality of Fushë Kosovë was also contacted regarding the issue. Mayor Prebreza responded by stating that residents of Fushë Kosovë are not experiencing water supply problems and denied any personal friendship with Fetahu.
“Water supply does not operate based on friendships—there is no releasing water to some and cutting it off for others,” he stated.
