Steve Witkoff, the special envoy of former U.S. President Donald Trump, held a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg on April 11, 2025. The meeting, which lasted over four hours, focused on the possibility of a ceasefire in Ukraine.

This marks the third time Witkoff has met with Putin this year, showing the Trump administration’s continued commitment to finding a peaceful resolution to the war in Ukraine. According to the Kremlin, the talks included discussions on “aspects of a Ukrainian solution.”

However, despite these diplomatic efforts, Ukraine has reported ongoing Russian attacks, including missile strikes, drone assaults, and bombing raids throughout the past month.

World leaders have expressed concern over the slow progress in peace negotiations. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has accused the Kremlin of trying to prolong the war and claimed that Chinese nationals have been involved in Russia’s invading forces. He also reiterated the urgent need for air defense systems to protect Ukrainian civilians and cities.

Although the talks between Witkoff and Putin were described as “productive,” no immediate breakthroughs have been announced. For now, the path to ending the conflict remains uncertain, and tensions continue to rise.
