Every year on June 14, many countries worldwide observe World Blood Donor Day.

In May 2005, during the 58th World Health Assembly, health ministers from around the globe unanimously committed to supporting voluntary blood donation.

Through Resolution WHA58.13, they designated June 14 as an annual day to honor blood donors.

The resolution urges member states to implement and support well-organized, nationally coordinated, and sustainable blood programs with proper regulatory oversight to ensure a safe and sufficient blood supply to meet patient needs.

This year’s campaign slogan commemorates the 20th anniversary of the day and highlights the profound impact of blood donation on the lives of patients and donors alike. The campaign also recognizes plasma and platelet donors worldwide for their life-saving contributions.

Moreover, it calls for action, encouraging more individuals to join the global movement of voluntary blood donation.

Blood is not only a vital component of our body but also a life-saving resource that cannot be manufactured by pharmaceutical industries. Therefore, its only source is the voluntary, unpaid donations of generous individuals.

The demand for blood remains high, as transfusions and blood components often save lives during accidents or surgeries.
