The American aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford, recognized as the largest warship in the world, docked on Tuesday along the coast of Split, Croatia, for a scheduled port visit. The arrival drew crowds of residents and tourists who gathered along the city’s waterfront.

The U.S. Embassy in Zagreb stated that the visit reflects the “longstanding friendship and cooperation” between the United States and Croatia.

Croatia’s Ministry of Defense emphasized the importance of the visit, highlighting the stability and strength of NATO collective defense.

This marks the second visit of the U.S. Navy’s most advanced aircraft carrier to Split and Croatia, following its first stop in June 2023.

While docked in Split, Gerald R. Ford will host local officials and senior leaders for meetings, the U.S. Navy announced in a statement.

The Ford is the first of a new class of advanced aircraft carriers designed to carry a wider range of aircraft and operate with several hundred fewer sailors.
