Zana Spahiu has been appointed acting director general of Radio Television of Kosovo.
After the resignation of Shkumbin Ahmetxhekaj from this position, the management board of RTK in a meeting today decided that Zana Spahiu should exercise this duty.
Spahiu is a graduate of the Faculty of Law at the University of Pristina. Since 2010, she has been working at RTK as a lawyer, while in 2022 she was elected head of the legal office of the public medium, reaching up to now over 14 years of work experience in the legal field.
“This decision of the board came after that on 23.05.2024 Mr. Shkumbin Ahmexhekaj has submitted his resignation from the position of general director of RTK. According to his request and determination, the resignation will be effective from 08.07.2024, for which he also received the agreement of the RTK Board in order to complete the works that were in the process, including participation in The General Assembly of the EBU”, it is stated in the communique of the public television board.
The board of RTK had appointed Ahmetxhakajn as acting general director on January 19, 2022, and then he was elected general director of RTK in June of that year.
“The board of RTK thanks Mr. Ahmetxhekaj for the cooperation so far. With Mr. Ahmetxhekaj The board has had a correct cooperation, whereas weeks ago there were disagreements and different approaches regarding the case of psychological violence that the radio director Mr. Arsim Halili towards some women in RTK, especially towards the head of the legal office. The board expected the general director to handle this case according to his responsibilities. The board reiterates that psychological violence and any kind of similar pressure from anyone to anyone, are unacceptable and will not be allowed in RTK”, the communiqué reads.
The board of RTK says that “it will continue to work continuously to preserve the independence and professionalism of RTK”.
“The board of RTK will continue its commitment to progress in RTK and will engage in reforming RTK”, the communiqué states.
