Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced today that a summit of European leaders supporting Kyiv will take place on Saturday in Ukraine.

During his speech at the meeting of the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF) in Oslo, Zelensky revealed plans to meet with leaders from the “coalition of the willing.” He stated:

“We are also preparing to meet with the leaders of the coalition here in Ukraine.”

Zelensky did not specify which European leaders would attend, but emphasized the importance of strengthening the coalition to ensure security in line with their shared vision.

French President Emmanuel Macron hinted that the summit would be partially virtual, partially in-person, but did not confirm if he would attend in person.

The “coalition of the willing” consists of around thirty countries allied with Ukraine, led by Paris and London. The group focuses on building forces aimed at ensuring a potential ceasefire with Russia and preventing further Russian attacks. Russia has been invading Ukraine since February 2022.

Europe has been seeking to bolster its support for Ukraine, especially since Donald Trump‘s return to the White House in January, as he has recently moved closer to Moscow. However, several countries in the coalition demand that the U.S. take a more active role in these efforts.
