Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will not attend the award ceremony for the Charlemagne Prize in Aachen.
Zelenskyy was scheduled to fly from Berlin to Düsseldorf and then on to Aachen, but he will instead return directly to Kyiv. According to security sources, this decision was made due to the threatening situation in Sumy.
The primary reason is the buildup of Russian troops near the city of Sumy.
Apparently, President Zelenskyy deemed it inappropriate to participate in a celebratory event abroad given the circumstances at home.
Ukrainian sources report that Russia has amassed around 50,000 troops for a potential offensive in the northeastern region of Ukraine.
