Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky congratulated the re-elected President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, expressing confidence that under her leadership, Ukraine will eventually join the European Union. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Zelensky stated that Ukraine’s ultimate strategic goal is EU membership.
“My sincere congratulations to von der Leyen on the approval of the new college of commissioners. We are confident that under this European Commission’s leadership, Ukraine will achieve its ultimate strategic goal: membership in the EU,” said Zelensky.
He also expressed hope that the new Commission would strengthen a united Europe and enhance the EU’s role as a global leader.
“We look forward to continuing our productive cooperation on key issues of the Ukraine-EU strategic agenda,” the Ukrainian president added.
The European Parliament voted today on the new composition of the European Commission, proposed by the re-elected Ursula von der Leyen, which was approved in September by the European Council. The vote resulted in 370 in favor, 282 against, and 36 abstentions.
