Ukraine does not view threats from representatives of the Iranian regime to strike its territory in response to Kyiv’s support for Middle Eastern countries as something new or significant.
This assessment comes from statements by President Volodymyr Zelensky during an interview with The Jerusalem Post, reported by Ukrinform.
“Nothing new. Over the past four years, I’ve heard many different messages,” Zelensky said, commenting on Iran’s threats against Ukraine for its backing of Gulf nations.
When asked whether he feared these warnings, he stressed that Ukrainians have lived under such threats for years.
“No, we are not [afraid] of any such messages,” Zelensky stated. “We live with such messages every day… That’s why this is nothing new for us.”
He also highlighted that instability in the Middle East is fueled by the Tehran regime, while the vast majority of Iranians oppose war and seek a normal life.
“I think many people in Iran, in fact civilians, want to live normal lives and be free,” he added.
According to Ukrinform, the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs described as absurd the threats from Ebrahim Azizi, head of Iran’s Parliamentary National Security Committee, to launch missile attacks on Ukraine in retaliation for its support of Israel.
