As potential ceasefire talks continue in Saudi Arabia, Time magazine has published a long interview with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
In the interview, he discusses the ongoing diplomatic efforts by the U.S. to end the war between Russia and Ukraine.
Zelensky states that Donald Trump “seems to be the only one Putin fears.”
“The Russians were truly frightened” at one point in the peace process when the U.S. threatened to sanction the Kremlin for the ongoing bombing attacks against Ukraine, Zelensky says.
The Ukrainian president also mentions that, over time, he hopes Trump will understand that Putin is untrustworthy and weaker than he appears.
He continues, saying that a Russian victory in the war would be a disaster not only for Ukraine but for the entire West, including the current leaders of the U.S.
Trump and his team would not accept such a defeat, claiming they “see their role in history” as powerful leaders who can bring the war to a dignified end, concludes the Ukrainian president, as reported by the BBC.
