Zelensky to Announce New Sanctions Today

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is set to announce a new set of sanctions from the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) today. According to Ukrinform, Zelensky shared this update in a statement posted on Facebook.


Crackdown on Treason and Corruption

“Ukrainian law enforcement officers performed exceptionally well today, including the Security Service of Ukraine, the State Bureau of Investigation, the National Police, and our prosecutors. We have acted against traitors and dismantled schemes that weakened our state and society,” Zelensky stated.

He further emphasized that anyone acting against Ukraine or its laws should be prepared to face repercussions. The president confirmed that the NSDC is preparing a new sanctions decision, with an official decree expected to be released later today.


Recent Actions

On January 18, Ukrainian law enforcement arrested the head of the Information Systems Support Department of one of the nation’s largest banks. The individual allegedly transferred funds to support the Russian military.

Additional measures include:

  • Issuing notices of suspicion to a judge from Kyiv’s Commercial Court and former high-ranking officials who facilitated over 3 billion UAH in fraudulent gas debt transactions with Russia.
  • Accusing a former TV presenter from Nash and NewsOne channels of high treason and inciting religious hatred.
  • Breaking up a Russian intelligence cell that included employees from Ukrzaliznytsia and Kyiv Metro.
