Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has once again urged the United States and other allies to “quickly implement” agreements for weapons and other supplies to assist Ukraine in its fight against the Russian invasion.
In a video message released late on September 14, he emphasized that “it is critically important for all countries, especially the US, to immediately implement agreements made with Ukraine.”
“The impact needs to be felt on the frontlines,” Zelensky said. “Every delay in military packages has negative consequences on the front. Every timely delivery, a swift delivery, has a positive impact.”
Efforts to provide military assistance to Ukraine continue, with NATO facing calls from several member states to supply Kyiv with more advanced weapons.
Kyiv also continually asserts that it needs to conduct strikes within Russian territory with long-range weapons to defend itself from Russian invading forces. This Ukrainian argument has been supported by some NATO officials.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer met with US President Joe Biden at the White House on September 13 to discuss whether Ukraine’s request to use long-range weapons against targets in Russia should be approved.
US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said on September 14 that Biden “is determined to use the remaining four months of his term to put Ukraine in the best possible position to prevail.”
Russian President Vladimir Putin earlier in the week stated that the West would be “at war” with Russia if it allows Ukraine to strike with long-range missiles produced in the West. Meanwhile, Dmitry Medvedev said on September 14 that Russia could destroy the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, with non-nuclear weapons if the West lifts its restrictions.
Medvedev, who now serves as the chairman of the Russian Security Council, also mentioned that Russia might use nuclear weapons.
