Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Sunday expressed gratitude to the United States and President Donald Trump for all American efforts supporting Kyiv, despite Trump previously claiming on Truth Social that Ukraine had shown no appreciation for U.S. assistance.

Earlier, Trump stated that Ukrainian leaders had expressed “no gratitude” for American aid in the war against Russia, a remark that drew criticism for its dismissive tone amid ongoing U.S. support.

In response, Zelensky posted on Telegram:

“Ukraine is grateful to the United States, to every American heart, and especially to President Trump for the aid, starting with Javelin missiles, that is saving Ukrainian lives.”

He also acknowledged support from Europe, the G7, and G20, emphasizing that maintaining international assistance remains crucial.

Zelensky stressed the importance of careful planning to end the war effectively and prevent future conflicts:

“Everything must be processed correctly so that we can truly finish this war and prevent it from happening again,” he said.

Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Ukrainian chief negotiator Andriy Yermak hailed “good progress” in ongoing Geneva talks on Trump’s 28-point peace plan, while acknowledging significant work remains before a final agreement can be reached.

Analysis: Trump’s characterization of Ukraine as “ungrateful” overlooks the tangible military and financial support provided by the U.S., including Javelin missile systems that have been critical in defending Ukrainian territory. Zelensky’s careful response highlights Ukraine’s diplomatic tact, balancing appreciation for U.S. support with a firm stance on European and multilateral cooperation.
